1. Summary
Resell Scanner lets users upload or capture images of items to receive AI-powered identification and estimated resale values. To operate the app, we process photos submitted by users and the resulting scan information. Some data may be stored locally on the user’s device, and some data may be processed by third-party infrastructure used to power the service.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how the app is used, Resell Scanner may collect or process the following categories of information:
- Item photos: Images that users choose to upload or capture in the app for scanning.
- Scan results: Item names, estimated values, notes, categories, and related output generated from scans.
- Subscription status: Information necessary to determine whether a user has access to unlimited scans through an App Store subscription.
- Analytics and diagnostic data: App interactions, feature usage, session activity, device and operating system information, app version, approximate geographic information, Firebase-generated identifiers, and performance or error-related events, depending on the Firebase services enabled and device settings.
- Basic technical request data: Information needed to operate the backend service, such as request metadata and error details.
- Locally stored history: Scan history saved on the device so users can revisit prior results.
- Leaderboard profile and participation data: If users use leaderboard features, we may process an app installation identifier, an optional leaderboard display name, public leaderboard opt-in status, rankings, qualifying scan statistics, achievements, XP, levels, and season results. Public leaderboard participation is optional and is off by default.
- Currency and valuation data: We may process the currency associated with a scan and normalized valuation amounts used to compare qualifying finds fairly across currencies. Item prices may continue to be displayed in the currency associated with the scan.
At this time, the app is not intended to require users to create an account to use core scanning features.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Process item scans and return AI-generated results.
- Estimate resale values and show item details inside the app.
- Track scan limits for free users and enable access for subscribed users.
- Store scan history locally on the device for user convenience.
- Operate optional leaderboards, calculate qualifying statistics and rankings, track achievements and XP, and finalize season results.
- Normalize qualifying monetary values across currencies for consistent leaderboard comparisons.
- Filter leaderboard display names to help prevent inappropriate public names.
- Diagnose service issues, understand aggregate usage patterns, improve reliability, and maintain the app.
4. Sharing and Service Providers
Resell Scanner uses third-party service providers to operate the app. These providers may process data on our behalf strictly to provide app functionality.
- Cloudflare: Used to host backend infrastructure, route scan requests, and store or process data needed for leaderboard, achievement, ranking, and related app features.
- OpenAI: Used to analyze submitted images and generate item identification and valuation output.
- Google Firebase: Used for app usage analytics and diagnostic event reporting as described in Section 5. Google may process associated technical data and identifiers under its applicable service terms and privacy policies.
- Apple: Used for in-app subscription purchases and subscription management through the App Store.
We do not sell user personal information. We do not share submitted scan data with unrelated third parties for advertising purposes based on the app features described here.
5. Google Firebase Analytics and Diagnostics
Resell Scanner uses Google Firebase Analytics to help us understand how the app is used and to identify opportunities to improve its performance, stability, and features. Firebase Analytics may automatically collect information about app sessions, screen views, feature interactions, app version, device type, operating system, approximate location, and app-instance or similar identifiers. We may also record events related to errors or other technical issues to help diagnose problems.
We use this information to measure overall usage, troubleshoot issues, evaluate feature performance, and improve the user experience. Analytics information is processed by Google as a third-party service provider and may be subject to Google's data processing and retention practices. Firebase Analytics is not intended to collect the item photos users submit for scanning or the contents of their scan results. Analytics and diagnostic data may nonetheless include identifiers or technical information that can be considered personal data under applicable privacy laws. Device-level privacy settings and applicable legal rights may affect the collection and use of this data.
6. Payments and Subscriptions
Paid subscriptions are processed by Apple, not directly by Resell Scanner. We do not receive or store full payment card details. Subscription purchases, renewals, cancellations, and billing are handled through the user’s Apple account and App Store settings.
7. Data Storage and Retention
- On-device data: Scan history may be stored locally on the device using app storage.
- Submitted scan content: Photos and scan requests may pass through backend infrastructure to generate results.
- Leaderboard and achievement data: When leaderboard features are used, qualifying scan statistics, rankings, display names, participation settings, achievements, XP, levels, season results, currency information, and related identifiers may be stored on backend infrastructure so these features can operate across app sessions and leaderboard seasons.
- Analytics data: Usage and diagnostic information processed through Firebase may be retained according to the Firebase settings we configure and Google’s applicable retention practices.
- Retention: Data may be retained only as long as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, and improve the service, including maintaining leaderboard and achievement history, unless a longer retention period is required by law.
Users can clear locally stored scan history from inside the app settings. Clearing local history removes the data stored on the device, but it may not remove server-side logs or temporary processing records already created during service operation.
8. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your information, such as the right to request access, deletion, or correction. Users may also:
- Delete locally saved scan history in the app.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through Apple subscription settings.
- Choose whether to participate publicly in the leaderboard. Public leaderboard participation is off by default and can be turned on or off from the leaderboard view.
- Choose or update a leaderboard display name, subject to name filtering intended to prevent inappropriate public names.
- Use available device privacy controls and contact us to exercise applicable rights regarding analytics data.
- Stop using the app at any time.

9. Children’s Privacy
Resell Scanner is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the app. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and address the issue.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information processed through the service. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the app after changes become effective means the updated policy will apply.
